Cyberpunk 2077’s journey on Steam has seen its share of highs and lows, and now it proudly wears the badge of a “very positive” user rating. A striking 80% of the whopping 553,000 user reviews now stand testament to the game’s quality, marking a departure from its previous “mostly positive” status.
The road to this achievement wasn’t without its hurdles for Cyberpunk 2077. While it had a challenging debut, the game managed to find its stride, especially among PC gamers with advanced setups. The game’s resilience on Steam can be attributed to the fact that even during its rocky release period, its score remained resilient, never dipping below the 70% mark—the threshold for a “mostly positive” rating. And though the console versions grappled with a slew of issues, CD Projekt’s unwavering commitment to refining the game experience was evident.
Marcin Momot, the global community director at CD Projekt Red, didn’t miss the opportunity to thank the gaming community. Expressing his heartfelt appreciation, he acknowledged their continued support and recognized the team’s relentless efforts since the game’s inception.
The tides truly began to shift in November 2021. This period saw a spike in favorable user reviews, largely due to the Steam Autumn Sale drawing in a fresh batch of gamers. Although the game’s overall rating remained under the “mostly positive” umbrella, a persistent flow of newer positive reviews gradually tipped the balance. Another significant turning point came with the launch of the Edgerunners update, aligning with the popular Netflix series. This update didn’t merely address lingering concerns but went above and beyond by introducing enticing features, including the much-appreciated cosmetic armor slots.
However, those visiting the Steam page might still come across the “mostly positive” tag for Cyberpunk 2077. This minor inconsistency arises from specific user review settings, which grant users the option to omit “off-topic reviews”—a mechanism to counteract review bombing. When considering the full spectrum of reviews, the game rightly earns its “very positive” accolade.
While clinching Steam’s elite “Overwhelmingly Positive” title, necessitating a staggering 95% of positive reviews, might be a bridge too far for Cyberpunk 2077, its ascension from a controversial launch to securing a “very positive” status remains noteworthy. Unless there’s another monumental game-changer, like the potential Phantom Liberty expansion, this notable achievement underscores the game’s commendable resurgence.
